FROM NPS: WEED WARRIOR TRAINING

Good morning,

We are excited to share that the National Park Service will be offering a 2-day Weed Warrior training (5 hours total). The training is broken into two sections: Part 1 (Virtual) is an introduction to invasive species management, and Part 2 (in-person) covers species identification and tool safety. Due to high demand, we will be offering training dates in both May and August. The training will cover basics of invasion ecology, removal techniques, species identification, theory behind the Early Detection and Rapid Response (EDRR) framework, and field safety.

Who this training is for:
This training is specifically for adults (18 years and older) who have signed on or will be signing on as a volunteer to serve in invasive plant control at the George Washington Memorial Parkway. Once you have completed Part 1 and Part 2 of the training, and signed a volunteer service agreement, you will be authorized to work independently at George Washington Memorial Parkway Sites. You can find a map of our sites here: GWMP MAP

Please note that this training will not authorize you to volunteer at any other public lands including other national park sites, or county parks.

We also welcome any current volunteers to use this as a refresher course as well as an opportunity to recruit some help for your park site!

In addition to the full Weed Warrior course, we anticipate offering an in-person English ivy only training later this summer. The English Ivy only training is a 2-hour training which covers identification and removal techniques for English Ivy. Completing the English ivy training may be a better fit for anyone who does not have the capacity to complete the full 5 hour Weed Warrior course. If you prefer to take the English ivy only training, you can register for the mailing list to be contacted with training dates here: NPS English Ivy Removal Volunteer Training

The dates for these trainings will be:
