Followup on Transportation Projects Survey

Nov 6, 2013

Our Representative on the Mount Vernon Council’s Transportation Committee, Jack Coulter, has cut thru all of the projects and identified the following as those in the Mt. Vernon Area

The chair of the Transportation Committee, Catherine Voorhees, stated that it would be important for residents to participate in this survey and give weight to our favorite transportation projects. Frank Cohn, the MV Transportation Commissioner, said that Mount Vernon residents will be able to establish our own local priorities, and will not have to compete against other Fairfax County regions, like Springfield, McLean, etc.

I found the map of the Fairfax county projects at this hyperlink http://www.arcgis.com/apps/OnePane/basicviewer/index.html?appid=07573df521164d67bd356ec2d43cc21f . When you click on each of the colored dots, an information window pops up, describing the project at that location. As far as I could find, these are the only unfunded projects that are located In Mount Vernon, not counting Lorton:

#30 Improve intersection of Fort Hunt Road and Collingwood Road
#60 Widen Richmond Highway from Fort Belvoir to Napper Road
#120 Fort Hunt Road walkway
#154 Mount Vernon Memorial Highway trail
#165 Quander Road walkway
#166 Riverside Road walkway
#188 Richmond Highway pedestrian & transit initiative
#191 Old Mount Vernon Road walkway
