In the last three days there have been four daytime burglaries in communities along the GW Parkway/Ft. Hunt Road corridor. On 9/24, officers responded to report of a home burglary in the 1800 block of Duffield Lane (very north end of Ft Hunt Road). Person(s) unknown had broken into the home by breaking a rear door window. This burglary took place in a 45 minute time period (11am–11:45am) while the residents ran an errand. Items targeted were jewelry and fine silverware.

On 9/25 at approx. 9:43am officers responded to the 2000 block of Fort Dr. to report of a residential burglary alarm. Upon arrival, officers formed a perimeter around the home and in the area. They discovered a broken window to the rear of the home within the screened in porch area. It would appear no entry was made to the dwelling as the audible alarm sounded as soon as the window was broken. Further checking lead to the discovery of a broken rear window on a neighboring home. The house was entered and jewelry & silverware were stolen. This method of entry and the property targeted match the burglary on Duffield Lane. At this time we do not have a suspect lookout.

Later on 9/25 officers were called to the 9100 block of McNair Dr. (off of the south end of Mt Vernon Memorial Hwy) to report of a residential burglary. Upon arrival officers found force entry through a forced rear door. This occurred sometime between the hours of 7am–4pm. Items targeted were jewelry, electronics and firearms.

Residents home during the day should be extra vigilant and lookout for strangers in the neighborhood. Please pay attention to persons walking in backyards, or going door-to-door, acting out of place. Report any suspicious person/vehicle/event to the Non-Emergency number 703-691-2131 (while you are observing the activity – don’t wait to call!) For a crime in progress call 911 if you see anything suspicious or a crime in progress, please call the police immediately.
